Good things first: The restaurant is very nicely done up, the tables are set up nicely and the waiters friendly. We were sitting in the terrace and this place is just amazing, stunning view and beautiful sunset.

But unfortunately the food couldn’t keep what the atmosphere promises: We stated off with a primi piatti that was declared as home made pasta and with prices between 15€ - 23€ rather pricey. The pasta and risotto was just a huge disappointment. The pasta wasn’t home made and the portions were ridiculously small, even for primi piatti. The sauce was ok, but also not particularly tasty. Considering the standard of the region, the taste was rather at the lower end (same for the risotto). We also shared a plate with different types of ham and salami. Here the quality was also comparable to any other restaurant - just +10 € in price. To the secondi piatti: The quality of the meat was good and the plate overall tasty. But again…The portion was just too small. After two full dishes, some of us were still hungry.

Another problem was, that food took rather long: The last dish arrived (1,5h) after we ordered (the even though the sides to the dish arrived 20 min earlier. In general the plates arrived rather randomly: We were at table of 8 and not two persons got there plates at the same time. That made it hard to enjoy the nice atmosphere.

Resume: Very nice atmosphere and amazing view. The food tastes good but is rather at the low end compared to the regional standard and the prices are even considering the view and the atmosphere just too high. Knowing that, I recommend the restaurant to people that want to have an appetizer and enjoy the view but...

The restaurant is very elegant, but there are lots of steps up and down as it's on several levels so worth bearing in mind if you have mobility problems.

I was in a party of four and we hsd a plate of local cheese to begin. At €18 we expected more than the few slithers of Pecorino on offer, which were accompanied by three very thin and unappetising slices of toast. The cheese was good, but did not warrant the price.

Fir the main course we all had the fillet steak either served with jus or with rocket and tomatoes. The two steaks with jus were 'well done' and the other two 'al'sangue'... or very rare.

The two steaks al sangue were only just tepid when they arrived, the rocket tired and the tomatoes very cold - straight from the fridge and bitter. That said, the meat was extremely tender and flavourful, but the fact it was almost cold made it unappetising.

We didn't complain because it would have upset the evening for our companions, whose well cooked meat was good.

We all had desert which was good

Unfortunately that night, the two of us who had eaten fillet steak al sangue suffered acute food poisoning.

I cannot say categorically that we contracted it in the restaurant, but it was the only place we ate out, was the last meal we had before we became ill and the meat was rare, which if not prepared carefully is known can cause food poisoing.

I never write reviews, but felt I should as becoming ill after eating out was not only a first for me, but also very unpleasant. From reading the reviews I'm aware that most diners have had a very positive experience and I hope this was...

I went to this place with a group of friends the day after easter, the restaurant is really beautiful and the dishes are tasty, however the service is extremely poor, since the beginning we had to ask many times for water and bread, and throughout the meal they didn’t refill not even upon request, we ordered few appetisers while waiting for our pastas but it took them one hour to serve the pasta!! So we asked to speed up the main course, the result is that half of the dishes were undercooked means still cold/frozen inside, the table was full of empty bottles, water, coke, wine, empty bread basket i had to ask the waiter many times to remove or we didn’t have enough space, when it came to desserts we ordered tiramisu but they didn’t have enough, so the waiter come back and lost his patience while we were choosing another option because THEY didn’t have enough to serve, and ask us to recount and tell him the order… very unprofessional and also arrogant 2 waiters upon 3, the dessert was great but it doesn’t matter that your food is good when your service is horrible especially when you charge 75€ each! For that amount i expect the waiter to fold my napkin everytime i leave the table and at least to be kind!...

Home made pasta, dry aged meat, and local Tuscan wine. Stopping by Il Caveau was the type of pleasant surprise you hope to find when roaming around a small Italian town. We visited Pitigliano based on a suggestion by a friend and wandered the small streets until we came across the humble sign posted just outside the entrance. Noticing the curious look on our faces a woman (presumable the upstairs neighbor) told us we would not be disappointed…. She was right. We were greeted by a pleasant hosting staff who showed us around the unique setting of the restaurant before bringing us to our table set on the terrace overlooking the west facing valley so we could have a view of the sunset. If this wasn’t enough, our meal was just what you would expect. I started with a home made pasta with semi-dried tomatoes and bottarga eggs paired with a local wine. To finish off we had a fillet which was prepared perfectly tender. One of the best cuts of meat I’ve ever tried. The fact that I am writing this 3 months later says something. The waitstaff were very kind and knowledgeable. A great example of Italian hospitality and taste. I’m very much looking forward to return to try their dry aged meats.

A perfect dining experience! When we decided to get away to Pitigliano I don’t think we would have such an opportunity to enjoy hi-end cuisine! We found Il Caveau on Google maps and walked over to make a reservation… we loved it. My wife, my son and I decided to try a variety of dishes and the local wine and all of them were beyond our expectations! The chef sent out “amuse Bouche” of tenderloin filet with truffle. wow! We paired that with the local Sassotondo wine and stared our appetizer of beef tartare then our main courses: pasta with porcini mushrooms, veal cheeks in pumpkin sauce and beef ribs with roasted rosemary potatoes. Desserts were equally amazing, as we had two crumbles, and a soufflé (which was the only dish that wasn’t perfect… it was less like a French soufflé and more like an American brownie) but still delicious! If you’re eating in Pitigliano: THIS IS THE PLACE!

Delicious restaurant in a magical setting. Super friendly staff and great steaks. The cured meats and cheese selection had a selection of stunning produce, really worth the money. Suckling pig and steak were both excellent. The green salad was basic but fresh and crisp. Desserts were not an afterthought, all skilfully made. Staff were kind enough to show us the meat fridge and the cellars. Both super interesting. Grazie.
