This is a delightful gem of a restaurant in the beautiful hillside town of Montemerano. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. We started with two perfectly made Belvedere martinis. If you know Europe, it’s hard to get an American style cocktail in many places. This restaurant prepared it perfectly. We ordered chicken liver pate and carpaccio for starters and had the chicken tortellini and cod dish for our main course. The flavors and portions were perfection. There is also an included appetizer that you find in many Italian restaurants. It was a serving of focaccia with a pomadora sauce and cheese. The flavors were simple and elegant. First things first, this restaurant offers such a familial experience, giving you a little insight into, maybe, the life of a local. Not necessarily the food or how they serve it, but simply the people around and the atmosphere, you can see (what I think is) the owner of the restaurant, in suit, talking to the older people, younger people coming around, having a drink. This place offers a cozy nook to see the town and it's few shops. Apart from that, the food is very good, as you might expect from a sister restaurant of a 2 michlein star restaurant and it's also very reasonably priced. We had hoped to dine at the main restaurant, but since it was fully booked, we opted for Il Giardino. The view from the restaurant is beautiful, and the setting is charming and simple. Service was pleasant — nothing extraordinary, but overall good. Unfortunately, we were disappointed by the food.
