We had made a reservation at the last minute for this restaurant due to our other plans falling through, about 15 minutes before we went to the restaurant.

Once we arrived at the restaurant, we told the worker at the counter about our reservation, and we were then asked to stand and wait at the counter, while all 3 workers in the restaurant were serving the same one table of 2 people for the next 20 minutes. We were very surprised that it took 3 of them to serve the same table, but kept on waiting in silence and out of the workers' way, since we had made a reservation.

When 1 of the workers finally came to talk to us, it was at this time that he reprimanded us that we never "confirmed our reservation". We apologized that we didn't know it needed confirmation, and explained to him that our plans had just changed 15 minutes before we came to the restaurant, so we immediately left to come to the restaurant after we made the reservation because we didn't want to be late. The worker ignored this, and kept on scolding us on not confirming the reservation, and when we pointed out that the restaurant was 70% empty at the time (70% of the tables were empty), he immediately told us that there's nothing he could do, and that we needed to stand there and wait. He then ignored us, and proceeded to start talking to other people who had walked in and were waiting behind us. We had to leave the restaurant after this as we no longer wanted to eat there.

Astoundingly, after we came home from vacation a week later, this restaurant had the gall to report us to the reservation platform, claiming that we never showed up and it was our fault for missing the...

We were going to Osteria Fanal del Codega or Dona Onesta in Dorsoduro for lunch today, Wednesday, and when we got there both were closed🤪 But how fortunate we were because we decided to try Al Vecio Forno because it’s directly across the Calle from Dona Onesta. It’s very nicely decorated and looked good so we went in. We were immediately greeted by Joni the waiter/server who was very pleasant in seating us and brought menus right away.It wasn’t busy, only 2 or 3 tables had guests. Joni took our orders for Aperol Spritz’s and a Bruschetta to split between us. We then ordered the Ricotta and Spinach Ravioli and the Lasagna. The Bruschetta was beautifully served and was equally delicious. Joni was very patient in not bring our second course until we were completely done with the Bruschetta which is a sign of a good waiter! Our Ravioli and Lasagna were wonderful and as Joni got to feel more comfortable with us we began to chat a bit more and found him to be a really nice and genuine. He actually made our experience really special besides the cuisine being wonderful! We fully intend to stop back to Al Vecio Forno not only because the food is great, but to see Joni again, sometime during the next 2 weeks of our stay in magical Venice. We can highly recommend Al Vecio Forno 😋 and please ask for Joni, and tell him Bill & Joanne...

Al Vecio Forno is a wonderful fine-dining restaurant for lunch and dinner. It is on the expensive side, but as I said, it is fine-dining. The best dish I had was the fresh salmon, it was brought in today, and it was cooked to perfection complementing the vegetables it came with. My friend tried the vegetarian ravioli with spinach and ricotta, which was warm and very flavourful. She said it was very filling and felt like comfort food- like something your grandma would make. Lastly, we shared the panna cotta and the tiramisu for dessert. You won’t see any photos of dessert because I didn’t get time to take them. The dessert was so good, we just ate it before the thought even got a chance to cross my mind. The panna cotta was truly devine, it was soft, jiggly, and delicious. The tiramisu was a mix of nice textures, including a rich cream and moist cake. The waiters were helpful, respectful, and funny. One waiter served our panna cotta by shaking it and saying, “Jiggly!” We were at the restaurant when it was quite full, so there was lots of chatter, but also lots of enjoyable festive music which was really fitting of the cozy place. Genuinely, completely honestly, a...

We passed this on the way to the Monteverdi church. Looked interesting so we returned. The place opposite is half of the price but we liked the look of the menu and it has a little landing jetty tunnel where there are tables. We shared a zucchini flower starter, lush. Then had capricciosa and an amalfi pizza. Both excellent and huge. So some take away to boot. Chose a bottle of primitivo, very reasonably priced, and also a craft beer. Both excellent too. We were very late for lunch and very early for dinner so we had the place to ourselves but the waitress was very hospitable and obliging. She said the comp bread was homemade and very good and it was, although we didn't really need it. And our little table by the canal was lovely, we watched the sea trout enjoying their lunch too. If we hadn't had drinks it was very reasonable. Our drinks weren't expensive but they doubled the cost. A very very good find.
