Had looked forward to trying this little place. And it is popular. But either the management has changed or the kitchen has been sent into orbit. Neither the bottle I wanted or the lasagne I chose were available, which is fine, normally. But the waitress acted as if it was my fault, and stomped off in a huff. When she brought the substitute wine, a sour, mean little creature, and my friend's, in a dirty glass, she smashed them down on the table so that the knives and forks rattled. This was the musical prelude to a far more exciting evening than one usually expects in a restaurant, and unfortunately none of the highlights came on plates. A mozzarella in carrozza sat lonely on the centre of its dish, and when I asked for lemon or pepper, I was allowed the second but was flamboyantly informed one doesn't use the first. My lasagne, when it came, had managed to attract a single parsley leaf. But it was cold, and served with disdain. Quite right too, for it was bland and overcooked: four tough little shrimps and a dollop of artichoke mush. It resembled the photos on this page the way a poverty stricken old parish church resembles the basilica of San Marco. We needed more bread, so a tall theatrical gentleman swished through the restaurant and onto the terrace, before doing a slapstick double take, and recalling just where he had been carrying the basket to. The waitress slammed the dessert menus down without asking if we were interested. She annoyed the French family next to us by walking off while they were ordering. She didn't have what they wanted, I think. At bill time she vanished completely and the chef suddenly appeared so we were at least able to ask to pay. For a bit of wheat and milk in Venice, not absurdly overpriced. But why bother? Goldoni or Malibran offer better acting, and almost everywhere offers...
Read moreOur first night in Venice and we were tired due to a full travel day. Our Airbnb is literally next door to this restaurant. We had some pretty bad food in Rome and Florence (some decent food as well but nothing outstanding) so we were not feeling much like eating out and was considering turkey sandwiches in our Airbnb. I am so glad we went out as this was some of the best food on our long adventure… (40 days) Sicily had some amazing food and this restaurant was as good!
We ordered Pesto and lasagna to share and I was really hoping the pesto would be as good as Genoa’s famous pesto. It was just as flavorful and the pasta was cooked perfectly. It was a nice touch that the presentation was so nice. The lasagna was equally as good with so much flavor and plenty of sauce - it was awesome!
They started the meal with some warm bread and cute little crunchy breadsticks- my husband loved those so much he asked to bring our leftovers home… he never does that. lol.
We also had their caramel cheesecake and a chocolate soufflé to split.. AMAZING… such a wonderful way to end a meal and our first night in Venice. The soufflé was everything you’d want it to be, hot, creamy, soft, and just all good!
Our service was wonderful, professional and entertaining even. We had a very good meal in a quaint and cozy restaurant.....
Read moreThis was very BAD experience while we were celebrating special event. It was my birthday and I was looking for a nice place, ready to spend time with my friends. Everything stared very nice: staff was friendly, we have ordered wine and dishes, enjoyed the meal and even while we did not finish, our waiter started collecting plates and asked few times if we need something more, it was not even an hour from the moment we entered a restaurant, when waiter came and said that we need to leave because something was broken at the toilet and everyone should leave a restaurant. Our waiter explained that there is other restaurant on the next door. It was very occurred, but we went out and the host just showed us a table outside in a rainy day, so we sat there and were waiting while it will be open again. In 20 mins after closing they open fully empty restaurant and when we wanted to come back inside they asked us if we will eat - when we said that drinks only, our firstly kind waiter said that they have many reservations and we have only 10 mins left. It was the moment we paid and did not want to stay there. I have never ever met a situation of escorted guests from any place. It was the last evening in Venice and we had worst...
