I cannot recommend this place. It is convenient if you're at the Hilton and the bread is good, but that's about it as far as positives go.
The menu is limited, which isn't always a bad thing but it somehow made ordering a bit more difficult than your average restaurant in this price range.
Still water is €6, and it's tap water. They bring it out in an old pellegrino bottle, which is obviously old with a wrinkled label from being wet (from re-filling it). The taste of chlorine and fluoride is extremely strong and is unmistakeable from bottle water. We've had locals warn us about this, and I expected it from some tourist-trap places in Venice, but not this place - attached to the Hilton.
We got pork and amberjack (fish). Both were on a bed of potatoes, which is something I have yet to see here. The potatoes were cooked ok and slightly seasoned. The pork initially had a decent flavor, but it appeared to be rolled, tied, then cooked which left most of it with a 'gamey' flavor, which increased closer to the center to a point where it was not edible. The amberjack was lightly breaded and was initially crispy, which deteriorated very quickly. The fish wasn't bad, but it certainly did not merit the price.
After all that, you tack on the €5/person cover charge and you're in high dollar territory, for pork which wasn't cleaned properly, run of the mill fish, and tap water. If I were in a touristy area, I'd expect to get scammed out of a meal, but not here. Don't do it to yourself. Walk up the road 7 minutes to find a local establishment if you're too tired to take a ferry and venture out to a better establishment.
Side note: We were trying to decide between this and Aromi, and by the time we left (21:30) Aromi was closed. I'm not sure what's up with either establishment, but I'd go down to Coop and buy a bag of chips before I spend another €71 on a meal for two...
Read moreMy wife and I ate here three times. And were satisfied each time. It is a beautifully decorated restaurant! The service is good! But we did have one waiter during a visit that made my wife feel like the waiter was not interested in serving us, but that waiter was seen just once! The waiter served us once and then was moved to serving other tables.
The food here is excellent! We ate the risotto. We also tried the Stucky pot (be careful, it is huge!) and we ate the pasta there! All very well made. But what stuck to my mind was the cold cuts plate (I cannot pronounce or write the name, sorry), it was very tasty and the meat were obviously of high quality! I could just eat multiple plates of those cold cuts! The balsamic vinegar (silver quality!) and olive oil were excellent!
Overall, very good food! And the prices were very reasonable. The average cost is 80 euros without the wine!...
Read moreWe’ve generally avoided hotel restaurants in America, but decided to give Aromi a try because it was so conveniently located for us. (And we’re in Venice!)
We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the experience. Very knowledgeable , accommodating staff (Riccardo REALLY knows his stuff and is very ‘Cordiale e disponibile ´) combined with an interesting menu and wine selection made for a memorable experience. We also learned of regional specialties, such as the Sant’Erasmo artichokes . Perfection. A great way to spend our anniversary evening. Merci beaucoup....
