The waiter was nice and moved us to a table away from strong drafts and offered us a welcome glass of sparkling wine — unfortunately, we don’t drink alcohol anymore, and the good parts pretty much stop there.
The lasagna was still cold in the middle and tasted odd; toward the end I felt slightly nauseous and couldn’t finish it. The fish in the grilled mix was dry and oily, likely left on the grill for too long. The side of greens — the green beans seemed like they came from a supermarket bag, boiled and thrown on the plate in a rush.
At the end of ordering, the waiter asked if we wanted focaccia — I said no, and my wife confirmed it. Yet when the food came, the focaccia was there. When I pointed it out, he said it was written on the order — which he had written himself. The table next to us, if I understood correctly, ordered tuna but got sea bass instead.
I don’t understand the high ratings on Google — either they’re fake or I just don’t get it. On another platform, I checked after dinner and they had an average of 3 out of 5, which seems closer to the real value of the place. A...
Read moreNice trattoria on the square, awnings also protect against possible rain. We had fish soup (delicious and wholesome, hot and with nice ingredients), spaghetti with crayfish, and fried l grilled fish and seafood platter with fried polenta and salad.
All was good. Not more not less. I had expected to get more uhh items? on the fish platter There was one half of fish grilled on its skin - delicious!, one small scallop in its shell, two small shrimps and one tiny crayfish, accompanied by a piece of fried polenta. For 30 euro i had expected a slightly larger selection/ out bigger animals. The shrimp and crayfish were the smallest they can get, and it shows. The service was very good and prompt, very kind waiters, the location was very nice, and the night - balmy. Maybe I'm too picky (they offered limoncello - very nice! The five stars are within reach, but they're not quite there yet.
Thank...
Read moreThis delightful square, so close to the main Quay, was a tranquil delight on a Sunday. The church was open, a Café opposite, with some delightful trees off-centre.
The waiters in this Café were helpful and attentive. One even went to fetch an electrified bat to remove a particularly pesky wasp!
The fish I had was cooked beautifully and boned at the table. Vegetables and ice cream were also wonderful, and one of the waiters spoke excellent English
Only missed 5 stars because that lunch cost €52 (£50)! I bought from the cheaper dishes on the menu, so I feel the prices listed by Google are misleading. But it is Venice and it was the highlight of...
