what a gem! only wish i had found it earlier! now that i have only 4 days left here (after have been in vieste for more than 2 weeks!) 🤣🤣 i love gelato and really believe you cannot go wrong with flavors such as caffe or amarena! i have visited at least 6 other places in town (there are so many gelateria and cafes in this village!) before i decided (randomly) to step into cafe maggiore. as usual, i ordered caffe and "cherry mania",, did not think much. but one lick of my ice cream, i was "wow! this is SO good!" even after years of coming to places all over italy, i was very surprised by the rich tastiness and the fact they have crunchy candy clusters and chocolate pieces inside. it was just so good! then i had a taste of my husband's caffe, we were both staring at each other and nodded - this is the one of best gelato we have had (the other one believe or not was from a tiny gelateria in middle of trastevere of rome!) and we came back tonight after dinner again! best of all, the three ladies who work there are just happy and fun people to interact with. i do not speak much of italian, they do not speak much of english, but every time i step into their little spotless establishment, i get infected by their infectious laughter and happiness .... it is SO nice to see people who actually enjoy their job! even at 11 pm on a sat night! oh, last but not the least, both their gelato and caffe (espresso) are really cheap! of course, i have not sampled all the cafes in vieste. but i have no need to go further. cafe maggiore is the...

Ribadisco qui quanto già scritto su Tripadvisor: Io e mio marito siamo stati in questa gelateria (Via S. Maria di Merino 40) dopo aver visto le valutazioni su TripAdvisor. Se questa è la miglior gelateria di Vieste, non oso immaginare le altre .... Ho specificato apposta l'indirizzo per evitare di trovare la solita risposta dal proprietario a chi fa valutazioni negative. Ovviamente la risposta del proprietario è stata arrogante e simile a tutte quelle che ha dato a chi ha scritto giudizi negativi. Esattamente come vedo qui su Google: "io mi accontento delle migliaia di clienti che invece preferiscono il mio gelato". E si accontenti pure ... Io però insisto che il suo gelato non è così buono. Forse è tra i migliori di Vieste perché può essere che a Vieste non ci siano gelaterie buone come dalle mie parti, non so. Ad ogni modo a cosa servono le recensioni se non ci fossero anche quelle negative? Giustamente lei è contento perché le recensioni positive sono la stragrande maggioranza, ma dovrebbe prendere di buon grado anche quelle negative, come fanno tanti altri proprietari di locali. Lei invece ringrazia chi le assegna più stelle e offende chi gliene da di meno quasi a dire che chi scrive è un bugiardo o sta facendo un dispetto. Poi, visto che lei giustamente chiede critiche costruttive "per migliorare la già alta qualità del prodotto" (convinto lei …), le dico che il gelato aveva una buona consistenza ma mancava di sapore (quasi non si distingueva un gusto da un altro). Io ho preso pistacchio e nocciola (prendo sempre questi due gusti, quindi per me è più facile fare confronti). Ovviamente i gusti sono gusti e io ho espresso il mio. Se avessi voluto farle un dispetto di stelle ne avrei messe soltanto una per la sua mancanza di modestia. E non si sprechi a rispondere di nuovo con le sue solite frecciatine, tanto la sua gelateria va bene, e mi fa piacere per lei. Cordiali saluti. Possibly the best gelato in Vieste, where most other spots are a tourist scam. Not the best gelato in Italy, in the smaller non tourist towns it is often a bit better, but still very good.

EDIT: To the response of the owner, the creamy tastes should not ideally contain so many frozen water crystals, and they did (we had 3 non-fruity flavours). I travel a lot, taste a lot, and have pretty solid comparison.
