1 of the famous food in Aizu is dengaku. Would usually go to Mitsutaya in downtown Aizu area but decided to check this place.
Menu is simple which is dengaku (assorted grilled mochi, pacific herring, fried tofu and konjac with sweet fragrant miso sauce), grilled mochi with sweet walnut sauce, and soba (hot or cold).
When you enter the shop, you can see it is very smoky because the master is slow grilling the dengaku ingredients over charcoal. There is a separate seating area that has 4 tables. You can check the menu on the wall and order from there.
We went for the dengaku, walnut mochi, hot soba and cold soba.
The dengaku is the best I have ever had. The mochi is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The pacific herring is grilled to perfection. My kids happily ate it all up which is an indication of how good it is that we ordered extra mochi.
The soba is a bit chewy which is different from the 100% buckwheat flour. Serves in simple dashi broth or soya sauce dip. While we usually go for the 100% buckwheat soba, this soba is here has its own uniqueness and is actually get delicious.
