竹ちゃん鮨 本店 — Restaurant in Asahikawa

Absolutely magical. You will not be disappointed. For 6,600 yen we enjoyed two Omakase plates (8 pieces each), cold sake, Sapporo draft, delicious miso, and hot green tea. Truly one of the best dining experiences of my life.

Our Japanese skills are limited, but the staff did not mind at all and were very helpful with the ordering process (which is deeply appreciated after we were turned away from 2-3 other places nearby for being foreigners) I felt that the staff was truly happy to share their food and service with us. We enjoyed hearing their laughter as they chatted with other customers at the bar as we ate, such kind and friendly people.

Fantastic quality sushi, must go if you are in the area The place is just a couple blocks from the main station and its located in a basement (only stairs to go in). It is run by a family and there is no English menu, but they managed to explain the options with photos and some English so ordering was not an issue We ordered a basic set and a premium set (both 8 pieces of sushi each).
