The BEST Jingisukan in all of Hokkaido! I didn't like Jingisukan after my experience in Sapporo - but the number of ratings and the high ratings convinced me to give it a try here in Asahikawa. That and most restaurants were closed at 8pm on Monday. It was so good that we made it a point to enjoy it again on Tuesday before we left Asahikawa. We even met other tourists who were back for their 2nd meal too!
Waiting for our turn at the small shop opposite the waiting area was pleasant - there was a small play area for children that kept my child happily occupied and away from the smokers. The queues moved really fast too. Both times we ate on the 2nd floor - it was not smoky and really comfortable on their tatami mats. Every staff we spoke to were so polite, kind, attentive and friendly; and we could communicate via Google Translate about wait times, where to wait, whether it was our queue number, recommendations and what to order.
The highlight of the day is the well seasoned and beautifully sliced meat! I loved ALL the cuts! Only the sausages are spicy. The complimentary vegetables and amazing service (of cooking the first round of food) further enhanced our experience! You can't miss their desserts too! The sheep ice-cream and pudding are so good! I only wish I can take away their...

We were particularly worried about finding a place in Asahikawa that serves glutenfree food, considering I am celiac, but upon showing my gluten free travel card, the staff immediately went through their ingredients list to check for gluten; I was able to enjoy everything off the menu, except for the meatballs, and the soy sauce & spices on my table.
The food is really good. It’s a classic style Japanese BBQ with high quality meat. You can pick from different kinds of cuts and also order extra veggies and rice. Personally, I’d recommend the tenderloin and sausages
The staff and vibe is great here. You get welcomed by everyone working there when you enter. Their supervisor, Kamid, was very attentive and ensured we had a good time; he instructed everyone working about my celiac and also gave us complementary tea at the end of our stay. Honestly, this place was a highlight of our trip to Japan. Kamid and crew, thank...
Read moreAsahikawa's most famous mutton barbecue restaurant. In Japan, mutton barbeque is called Genghis Khan. Mutton meat generally has a distinctive smell, and it is said that there are two types of mutton meat: those who like it and those who don't. However, the mutton meat here is so fresh that it has no smell at all, and even those who don't like smells can eat it easily. You can order different parts of the meat, such as fatty meat and lean meat, so you can enjoy a variety of tastes. The restaurant is very popular, so crowds are inevitable. Reservations are only accepted from 4pm to 5pm. If you go without a reservation, we recommend that you use the ticket machine at the entrance of the restaurant 30 minutes before the restaurant opens to get a waiting number. There is a waiting room across from the restaurant, so if you wait there, the waiter will call you when your turn comes. I recommend everyone to try the Genghis Khan at this restaurant...
