If compared to other Dormy Inn branches all over Japan, Dormy Inn Asahikawa is slightly old from the outside. However, don't let it stop you from booking it. In fact it is one of the best bang for buck hotel I stayed in Hokkaido!
Being a business hotel, there are complimentary coffee served at the lobby area. Staffs are very friendly and will attempt to help you out despite the language barrier. Depending on which room you opted for, you'll be surprised that the standard room is quite small and there are only enough space for two person to move around. Despite the lack of space, they did not compromise on the facilities itself. The best thing in the room is definitely the toilet with warmed seats and automated bidet. It simply makes the overall experience a very pleasant one.
There are two things I absolutely love with this hotel:- The hot spring and the morning buffet. Starting with the hot spring, this is a traditional Japanese hot spring so you'll have to get naked before you walk in to the bathing area. There are English/Chinese instructions on how to enjoy your bath, so please do obey them to avoid any misunderstanding with the locals.
As Hokkaido is famous for its agriculture goods, you can expect the hotel will serve you the best food in their buffet menu. If the Japanese food is not for you, you can also find western menu which includes freshly baked pastries and standard American breakfast. Regardless what you chose, finish off with the local fruits and Hokkaido Milk.
The place is considered a steal if you factor in everything that I mentioned. I'll definitely be back for this hotel if I'm in Japan.
Protip: If you're there on Autumn/Winter, be sure to grab a cup of coffee/tea before you head up Enjoy the complimentary hot noodles served after 10pm. Best enjoyed after a bath...
Read moreSecond time in this hotel, and I'm likely to stay here again of I ever return to Asahikawa. The room is functional and comfortable, the Onsen is a great. Just the breakfast could be better but it's still fair as it is. Oh, and there's a free late-evening Ramen service - perfect if you get in from the cold, or are slightly but too lazy to head out once more. It's quite a walk from the train station, so if you plan to take trains or busses from there, this might not bethe best choice. There should be a bus to the station, though. And there's.usually a taxi waiting outdoors. However, for the Asahikawa Winter Festival, it's a great location. Just walk one block and you're in the middle of the ice sculptures. The Asashibashi site of the event is a bit further away, but still in walking distance. Last but not least, the bus from Asahikawa airport stops directly in front of the hotel - just stay on the bus ome or two stops after the train stations (where most if not all people...
Read moreWe had a family room with two double bed and living area that can be converted to tatami beds at night. Great for the four of us with lots of space to move around.||Breakfast is buffet style with Japanese and Western spread. They serve coffee via a machine in lobby and also in the dining room. Understand they serve free noodles to guests as supper but we didn’t try it.||There’s also a nice onsen on the top floor with free self laundry and paid dryer services.||Hotel is very centrally located with average 15 minutes drive to different attractions and only 5 minute walk to main shopping and eating areas. However, if you choose to arrive via train then be prepared for a good 15 minutes walk in summer. If its winter then suggest you catch a cab.||Parking is chargeable at 600Yen per day.||Highly recommended for family with young children. They even provide special children pillows and in-house clothings for the kiddos. There’s also a children cutlery section in the...
