Located on the 4th floor of the Intercontinental, this restaurant is most certainly a cut above the rest. Having visited Japan for my 5th time, I must say this is one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Executive Chef Kenji Kudo has put together a most definite Michelin star experience, at least. The presentation is not just a presentation of food, but of a survey of the region of Beppu, taking specialties from different parts of the region. Atelier is a must if you are in Beppu! Creativity, passion, and attention to detail is shown so clearly in every single dish. We spoke to the Executive Chef Kenji, and he spent his time walking us through the dishes and wine pairings.
Truly a fantastic experience through and through. He featured us many locally sourced items across, the pinnacle being his hand selected Wagyu Sirloin was one of the greatest I have had in the world!

Ingredients, flavours, and preparation method were a combination of best of Japan and France. Very delicious and impressive.
Wine pairing was also on point, with every selection elevating the paired dish.
