Suiten Beppu Yamanoteten — Restaurant in Beppu

Amazing “conveyer belt” sushi place. However even though the conveyer was running nothing was on it. But really you should come here for the quality of the fish. Prices are very reasonable (at least from a Californian POV) and the fish is thickly cut. We ordered at least 4 cuts of premium toro but also enjoyed the white fish (especially horse mackerel) many little side dishes.

They have an English menu but to order you have to write your order on slips of paper in Japanese. The top half is for sushi and the second half is for drinks and small dishes.

We arrived slightly before 6pm and the restaurant was pretty empty so I didn’t have high hopes at first but shortly after we began eating it filled up until even the waiting...

Really delicious kaiten sushi with very thick cuts of fish compared with anything you'll find in Tokyo, or chain restaurants. Oita prefecture and Kyushu/Chugoku in general seem to specialize in white fish and "blue" fish (my favorites) compared to other regions in Japan and they definitely did not disappoint. If you just want soft fish just order the salmon, which was also pretty good. Ryukyu gunkan seems to be a regional specialty and was delicious and affordable.

The wait was a bit longer than expected as the staff we not aware that we needed a wheelchair accessible seat. It ended up taking us about half an hour longer than expected to get seated, but the staff were very kind and...

During our 3-day stay in Beppu in October, we visited Suiten Beppu Yamanoteten for both lunch and dinner, and it was a fantastic experience. The staff were friendly and attentive, making sure we were well taken care of throughout our meals.

The sushi and sashimi were top-quality, incredibly fresh, and simply delicious—there wasn’t a single thing to complain about. Even though my son isn’t a sushi lover, the restaurant offered other hot dishes that he thoroughly enjoyed, allowing the whole family to be satisfied.
