ONSEN review: amazing luxurious onsen at affordable price! Entrance ¥800, everything is provided (two towels, small to scrub, big to dry and shampoos), you can get your onsen stamp at the friendly reception. Operating hours 14:00-16:00 (for the people who are not staying at the hotel), there is parking. The hotel has many things to keep you occupied before of after bathing, pieces of art scattered here and there, a souvenir shop, a cafe and restaurant in a nice Japanese garden landscape. The onsen facilities for women and men are a bit different and they swap daily. Before you enter the onsen area you go through a corridor where you get your towels, there is a big array of different shampoos in small baskets on display for you to choose but there are shampoos inside where you wash up as well so it's not necessary to get something from here. The changing area is big and tidy with all the amenities, free hairdryers, aftershave, razors, cotton buds, combs. There are two tubs, indoor and outdoor. Entering the onsen area you are at the indoor, many places to wash up with a stool and shower heads. The tub is really big, water temperature was 41.7c, the ceiling is made entirely of cypress wood and is quite impressive. The outdoor area had also a really large tub (water temperature 40c) and it was really beautiful, big rocks on one side were creating two small waterfalls where the water was falling into the tub, plants in the middle of the tub, pine trees and greenery all around us and above our heads, there was even a small covered area in case of rain. The sound of the small waterfalls combined with the created scenery was very relaxing. Spent an hour there on a Friday which is supposed to be busy but in the mens section at least we were like 5-7 people, because the place is so big you wouldn't even notice them. Excellent and clean facilities, if you would like to have a luxury onsen experience at an affordable price this is really recommended! Gensen...
Read moreI stayed here for one night in October 2022 and had a wonderful stay. I've been to many Ryokans across Japan and this one is up there with the best of them. I will say, one thing that set it apart personally for me was that the slippers / sandals provided actually fit me! I couldn't believe it, I was so happy that they had sandals / slippers that fit my 31cm size feet! Apart from this, I was very pleased with the overall service and attitude of the staff, everyone was warm and welcoming and more than happy to take some pictures of us. The welcome drinks / appetizers were more than we could have asked for, plus the tea, sochu, and pudding at night also added to the great experience. The Onsen's were both nice and clean, with the main onsen (with a tree in the middle) truly being a place to relax and the other (with the cave) being fun for kids to play in. I ate dinner in the room which was nice, and the breakfast in the morning had a huge dessert table which was cool if you're in to sweets. All in all I would 100% come here again and recommend it to my friends and family. Thanks to everyone at the Hotel Shiragiku who made my...
Read moreGreat location a few hundred yards from the station. There’s good onsite parking if you need it, large and pleasant reception and lounge and good Wi-Fi. The hotel also has its own Onsen which we didn’t have time to use but which we understood was really good. The bedrooms were a bit dated but large and comfortable as were the beds. The TVs were small with only local stations available. The small en-suite looked and felt as though the entire thing including floors, walls, ceiling, door and fittings, had been provided as a drop in unit but is all functioned well enough and the heated mirror above the sink was a welcome feature. The WC itself was the usual Japanese creation incorporating both loo and bidet with heated seat - very unusual but you soon get used to it. The bed linen and duvets were very good but the towels were pretty small and had been laundered to within a millimetre of their useful working life. Breakfast was mainly Japanese but saved by a good egg station. The staff were very pleasant and several had...
