It’s more of a family style classic inn and I had a good time. Having been to Japan for more than 10 times, and before I usually stayed in chain hotels like Ritz Carlton, Hotel Nikko, Imperial Hotel Tokyo, The Okura Tokyo etc. I was planning to book 山莊無量塔 in Yufuin, but sadly 無量塔 needed at least 2 people for booking. As a solo traveler, I accidentally found this inn on internet as substitute and they are okay to accept me for 2 nights, thank you! The staff here speak limited English but they tried hard to communicate and make sure I enjoy~ I learnt new things like Kabosu, kadomatsu, from the young girl serving me dinner in this inn.
The inn is not around restaurants/sightseeing places so you would need a bus/taxi from Beppu station, or walk for about 25minutes. However, it is quiet and when sleeping during night, I felt I was back to when I was a child, the time I could still see moonlight and stars in the sky. When there was wind at night, the tree leaves in the garden moved and they dropped their moonlight shadows into my room -It was relaxing and I felt I found my inner peace.
I wish I could stayed longer.
P.S. Just one thing to say, I did wish to have a normal chair in my room 😂 maybe in the balcony…Seiza was difficult...
Read moreI stayed with my family during our trip to Beppu, and it exceeded all my expectations. We wanted to experience a traditional-style Ryokan, and this was the perfect choice. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, ensuring that everything was well managed. One of the highlights was the ability to reserve a private bath, which made the experience even more relaxing. The breakfast was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. The atmosphere was peaceful and calm, making it an ideal place to rest and unwind. The location is also convenient—just a 7-10 minute taxi ride from Beppu Station. I highly recommend this Ryokan to anyone looking for an authentic and relaxing...
Read moreGreat food, baths, and service all around. Totally worth the money. Everything was very clean and the hosts were friendly and professional. I don’t think having a private bath in your room is necessary because the communal bath was spacious and we didn’t run into anyone. The people at the ryokan don’t speak English much so I would recommend using Google Translator app for communication (which totally worked for us). Ryokan is a bit far from the main downtown area of Beppu so we took a taxi (the ryokan can call a taxi for you; about ¥1000 one way). Would love to come back again...
