El Cariño — Restaurant in Fujisawa

The first thing I thought of when I entered this restaurant was: man, this could be a scene out of a Quentin Tarantino film. And I mean that in the best way possible. Musty 70s (?) decor? Check. Loveable but slightly inexplicable fellow customers? Check. Either way their food is good and even better value for money, especially coming from Tokyo where an order of guac runs you the GDP of a minor island economy (for the record, el carino’s was ¥500 and AMAZING). Most of all the staff were friendly and very hardworking. I wish this restaurant continued success and looking forward to visit them again. This place was recommended by a co-worker. The lunch menu was basically a mishmash of barely identifiable plates of seemingly random things. I had a steak set, and a taco. I ordered it medium-rare, it came to me blue on a hot iron skillet... I guess I was supposed to wait a while till I ate it. It was not seasoned, and had a frozen knob of butter on it. I think they hate steak.

The taco was a soft floor tortilla grilled crisp. It was okay.... The salsa was either made last week or month or canned.

I was not impressed, and I think they are misleading customers by calling it Mexican.

I could eat it. And it wasn't gross. So... Two stars is...

He has a nice lunch menu based on hamburg and steak about 1000 yen. Dinner changes into more of a Mexican and steak place. Seems like an honest guy. Not a sqeaky clean type of place but large and relaxing place...
