FURANO BAR — Restaurant in Furano

Just to be clear, I would give 0 stars if I could and that’s extremely rare for me. I was just here with my partner and we’re both clearly westerners. It was 10 pm and the restaurant was about half full. As we entered we were told in English that the wait for anything at all was 30 mins. We were happy to wait but were told it could even be 30 minutes for a drink (with 2 staff and empty seats at the bar). We were leaning towards waiting but the person who greeted us was saying again and again in Japanese “wow, they would really wait 30 minutes”. It felt as if they thought they could speak about us poorly right in front of our faces and we wouldn’t understand. We decided to leave because it was very clear we were not welcome, and when we left, I heard them discussing that we were “scary” (we both understand Japanese). If you want to be at a place that practices tolerance and peace, I advise avoiding this place, regardless of where you’re from. I first found this place one evening when my sweet tooth was calling, and most everything else in Furano was closed for the evening. The atmosphere feels private even though there were others dining and it’s a small space. I returned the next evening for dinner. Seared sirloin and salad, bread, and Furano white wine. Finished with the Tiramisu and a Limoncello. Watching the chef is an absolute bonus and I found the staff to be much more attentive than some other locations along my trip through Hokkaido. We came across an incredible Italian restaurant in Furano, and it was such a great experience! The staff were super friendly and welcoming. They went out of their way to be accommodating, which made the whole experience even better.

We ordered the pasta, and it was absolutely delicious – perfectly cooked, with rich and flavorful sauces that you could tell were made with care. On top of that, the prices were super reasonable for the quality.
