I recently had the pleasure of visiting Lounge Furano in Furano, Hokkaido, and it was nothing short of a fantastic experience! The owner, Michael, was incredibly passionate about sake and took us on a delightful journey through some exceptional varieties we’d never encountered before. His enthusiasm and knowledge truly enhanced our experience.
The food was nothing less than exceptional, with every dish exquisitely prepared and presented. The service mirrored the quality of the food - attentive, friendly, and efficient, making our dining experience both times (with both a small and a larger group) absolutely enjoyable.
A special mention must be made of Michael’s son, Wesley, who has masterfully designed a series of signature cocktails. Each cocktail celebrates a different region of Japan, and they were a real highlight of our visits. The creativity and flavours in these cocktails added a unique touch to our evenings.
Whether you are with a small group or a larger gathering, Lounge Furano caters to all with its warm atmosphere and outstanding service. I highly recommend visiting if you find yourself in Furano. It’s a true gem that offers not just great food and drinks but an great friendly atmosphere and...
Read moreWe picked Lounge Furano because it had 5 stars, and we can confirm that it deserves every one! It’s hard to believe that this family owned & operated establishment has only been open 5 weeks - the sake, food, and service were all exceptional. My husband and I are novice sake drinkers and both got a flight with an appetizer pairing and detailed explanation of each of the sake’s origins. For entrees we shared the Quattro Formaggio pizza (which featured three Hokkaido-made cheeses) and prawn teppanyaki which were both delicious. A 20-person group arrived a few minutes after us and despite being the only other people in the bar, Michael and Wesley (father and son team) made sure our food came out promptly and frequently stopped by our table to check in and chat. They gave us so many recommendations to help us enjoy Hokkaido like a local - from other restaurants to non-touristy onsens to the best hidden powder stashed at the resort. We left feeling warm & fuzzy - partly from the sake, but mostly because it felt like we’d just spent the evening with friends. Cannot recommend...
Read moreHad a lovely evening here last night. Initially we thought we might just stop in for a drink, but ended up staying for dinner and a sake flight. I’ve previously found sake tasting quite challenging as there’s such a broad range of sakes, and as a foreigner it can be hard to know what to pick. That was not an issue here - the host was lovely and very knowledgeable on sake, and he picked sakes for us based on our individual taste preferences, all of which were delicious. The food was delicious too, with particular highlights being the pepper-encrusted ham as part of the appetizers paired to the sake flight, and the lemon and jelly dessert. Will definitely come here again on any future...
