El Asador 富良野 ステーキハウス — Restaurant in Furano

Food was very disappointing, especially for the price. Nice and cosy environment though, and no real complaints about the service.

We ordered the onion soup (800JPY), grilled vegetables (1900JPY), potato wedges (800JPY), and a ribeye steak (4200JPY for 300g).

To begin with, French onion soup came in a small cup and was extremely watery. It tasted like salty onion water, and had no real depth of flavour.

Grilled vegetables were ok, probably the best dish of the night. Broccoli was unfortunately very tough, probably because it wasn’t parboiled before going on the grill.

Potato wedges were disappointing. Potatoes were not crispy and fluffy, and more importantly were way too heavily salted. It was so salty we had to try and shake the salt off before eating. Accompanying sauce was decent though.

Steak was pretty bad. To be fair, it had a decent crust but the cook was extremely uneven. Perhaps characteristic of a cook on an extremely hot grill, the steak had a grey band but a very rare midsection. We did asked for the steak to be cooked slightly more, which resulted in something closer to medium than medium-rare though, and the meat came out rather tough. Unfortunately we didn’t take photos of the cross-section / money shot.

Overall, this was a highly disappointing meal, ESPECIALLY for the price. I would not recommend unless you ABSOLUTELY must have steak during your trip to Furano, or you’re too tired to venture into town. Even then, there are probably other better restaurants...

So we had a bit of a group (7), so reservations were important. Also, many of the good restaurants in this town fill up fast.

So we arrived a bit early, very clean and welcoming restaurant. The staff had us quickly seated and got us drink and food menus. A good selection of spirits and cocktails. And this is a stake house!! That said, we had a vegan in our group who was very happy with her options. The table collectively ordered 4 Wagyu stakes and 1 Picanha, 3 orders of mashed potatoes 3 of potato wedges, lots of veggies, and salads. A proper feast!! The staff were able to easily handel a full restaurant even with our demanding drink requests ( I had a few problems with empty glasses... mine might have had a hole in it, lol.) We were all so full and delighted with our food and the way it was prepared. There was lots of parking, it was easy to find and did i mention the staff...

In general the food is good. Steak 7/10 Grilled Vegetables platter 9/10 Melted Camerbet 8/10 Tortilla 2/10 French Onion Soup 3/10

Btw, they do not offer seafood paella, so if you are a pescatarian like me, stay away. One of the reasons i picked this restraunt is they have steak for my partner and seafood paella for me.

Limited selection of wine list. Mostly Australian.

The waiters are friendly but not organised.

Restraunt is packed! Better make a reservation ahead.

Waiting time is long! Even after my partner has finished his Steak, my grilled vegetable platter and camerbet did not arrive after 20 minutes. Anyways, at least the chef came to apologise.

So all in all, decent steak, if you are willing to wait for a long time for your food and happen to stay nearby...
