Great sushi and Izakaya with a lot of history here in Okinawa.

Back in 1984 my first sushi experience was at the original Highway Sushi located on Highway 58 just outside of Futenma Air base.

The current sushi chef is the son of one of the original proprietor’s and his skills and the food quality is excellent.

The prices and portions are perfect. Get away from the over priced Chatan tourist Izakayas and try some great traditional Okinawa foods prepared like mom’s cooking.

With its bold, eye-catching sign and wide, open frontage, Kappo Highway is easy to find and welcoming to all. Counter and table seating make it comfortable whether you’re dining alone or with company. English menus are available, which was especially helpful for international guests. The food is just what we all need sometimes! A good “main” then some rice and miso soup! My personal favorite is the fish fry! Tender and fried to perfection!
