The front end of the shop was eatery, and the back end was souvenirs. For the souvenirs, we got tax-free after exceeding 5400 yen. Then, the cashier will seal all tax-free items in a plastic bag and scan our passport. We were told not to open the plastic bag until we left Japan. If we checked in our baggage, then we need to inform the airport staff about these tax-free items.
About the eatery, we needed to order through a machine. Even though we chose English but only the right-hand side of the screen while the menu was still in Japanese languages. Secondly we didn't know which kind of food was fall under which category. Only with the help of the workers in the restaurant then we found the exact category of fresh oyster, hotate, grilled prawns, and other food. After payment, we will have a ticket, and we needed to look at a big screen to know our turns to correct counters to pick up our food (A, B, C, or D counter).

Read moreI wasn't in the mood to eat or buy anything at the Hakodate Morning Market because everything was priced for tourists. However, I ended up enjoying a lot of food and shopping here. The prices were reasonable, and it felt like a place where locals also come. There’s a food court area on the south side where you can order dishes like sashimi sets and seafood bowls. You can also find ready-made bowls and sashimi inside the shops, which are inexpensive and delicious! (Tuna bowl ¥1,080, shrimp bowl ¥842). I also had fresh squid and boiled crabs. The crab was just ¥1,200 for two pieces. They boil it right in front of you from the tank where it’s alive, and it’s incredibly tasty. If I had more time, I would have loved to eat more. I wasn’t in the mood to eat anything at the morning market, but I highly...
