函館海鮮料理 海寿 — Restaurant in Hakodate

Definitely recommend for an authentic seafood experience! Came here right when it opened at four and managed to get a seat as the place was already almost full. We were extremely happy to have come across this place as this was exactly the kind of sushi experience we were looking for here in Hakodate, which is well known for its fresh seafood being on the coast. Thankfully, the restaurant had an English menu when you asked. There is a sitting “appetizer” fee of 600 yen, which was probably our least favourite thing we had that night (some kind of vinegar roe that wasn’t to our palate). For dinner, we ordered fresh sashimi, which came out on an impressive giant stone bowl. We also had the cheesy crab bisque, fresh sea scallops, assorted tempura, and the sushi assortment plate. The fish was incredibly fresh and they catch you the scallops fresh from their sizeable tank at the front of the restaurant. The staff were very friendly and entertained by our exclamations of “oishii” over and over again. I have a salmon allergy, which they graciously worked around with the sashimi and sushi. This is one of the few places that opens late near the Hakodate bay area. It's a pretty cool place with live seafood on display right next to the tables. Since I was alone, I had to sit in the dark corner but I still enjoyed myself with the following dishes: Otoshi of Uni - very refreshing Crab congee (rice porridge) - heart warming on a cold night Char-grilled A5 Wagyu steak (90g) - ultra smooth, absolutely delicious

The best grilled seafood I've had anywhere in Asia! Superbly fresh incredients, well prepared and beautifully served. The grilled squid and sable fish were especially delicious and we had to have seconds on the grilled scallops in butter. I also recommend the crab salad.
