Shin Hakodate Shio Ramen Ryuho — Restaurant in Hakodate

One of the most memorable ramen experience we had in Hokkaido. We planned to go to Ajisai as other travel guides suggested, but they closed during new year. Found this small ramen shop from Tabelog instead. It is a hidden gem and less known to tourists. The Golden Salt ramen was truly amazing! The broth is very clear but the depth of flavour blew my mind. Overall a great signature Shio Ramen of Hakodate! You can also buy the dry noodle and soup package home from there. 6-seat ramen "shop". Every wall panel is a sliding "door" panel. Shio ramen came with a clear broth but flavourful and not "shioty" (salty). Butter ramen was buttery rich - butter makes everything good!

No English spoken but they have posters of their selections (six mains in total, I think) which had faint English text. Pointing helps and "butter", shio and shoyu easily understood. Gyoza as a side also on offer.

If I was starting longer, I'd definitely have visited...

I was highly disappointed, especially after the food rating. I only had the regular Shio ramen but the meat tasted off and beyond that -and ramen of course- it only had the usual salt pickled roots which weren't pleasant either. The brought was unspectacular. At least the ramen were nice and chewy.

It left to wonder if the food court is perhaps a bit too famous and thus not relying on quality anymore. I had much better ramen in less...
