Shoku no Hoko Hokkaido JR Hakodate Station — Restaurant in Hakodate

I had the Hokkaido Chicken Curry for lunch, and it was fantastic. Not too spicy, not too mild. The amount was good too. It came with a soup/consomme and a small dish of salad.

The service was pretty fast and seemed like a well-oiled machine. The food menu is multilingual, but the beverages menu is Japanese only, which was okay for me.

One little weird thing is that I was initially asked to form a queue outside, even though seats and tables were clearly available. I dunno, maybe they were reserved? Luckily it only took 5 minutes until I was sat down.

As for atmosphere: definitely better than most quick-serve Japanese restaurants, but atmosphere is just not why you eat here. You eat here for good food at...

Food is really fresh and the white fish carpaccio is excellent. It’s our favourite for the night. Everything tasted great. Love the chewy texture and freshness of udon, it’s not those dried ones. Corn is sweet and grilled aromatically. Seating is spacious and comfortable. Food serves slightly slow but it’s understandable as I guess they don’t have a big kitchen. This restaurant deserves a 4.5 star in my heart, with the freshness and quality and price, and it was daunting to see a 3.5 when I thought I needed to give it a good review. A good place to eat at for a filling yet affordable lunch.

I ordered the hokkaido fried chicken set which came with rice, miso soup, salad, and pickles. With the oolong tea I ordered, the total bill was ¥803. I was surprised! For the quality, I felt I paid so little. The chicken was freshly fried and the salad tasted good.

Servers were also attentive especially since there was a call button you could use. I couldn’t finish the food, so I had it wrapped for takeout which they did speedily.
