I stayed one night at Onsen Guesthouse Tsutaya on my first trip to Hakone as a solo female traveler in my 40s, and I couldn’t believe what I got for the price—around $30 USD for a bed in the female dormitory, with full access to incredible on-site onsen baths. That’s unheard of where I’m from!||I had a top bunk in the dorm and felt totally safe and comfortable. The bed was clean and cozy, and I had a great night’s sleep. The entire property was quiet and respectful—perfect for a solo traveler.||The real gem here is the onsen experience. Both indoor and outdoor baths were peaceful, well-maintained, and so relaxing. Soaking in the outdoor onsen surrounded by nature after a day of exploring was pure magic.||The common areas—especially the lounge and kitchen—were welcoming, stylish, and spotless. It was easy to prepare a simple meal and connect with other travelers, or just enjoy the serene vibe.||The location is also fantastic. Read moreThis is a lovely place, right over the river, and our private room was very spacious and comfortable. The sound of the river running outside was very soothing. The double bed was large and comfy, and so was the sofa! The photos were very accurate. |The staff were friendly, and had no problem with us leaving our bags earlier in the day prior to our check in. The room had a good fridge, and the reception sells some easy food options (cup noodles etc) and sake/beer/soda. We used the washing facilities (coin op dryer and washer) and enjoyed the onsen whilst our clothes dried! The onsen were fine, clean and hot. The communal facilities were very pleasant and homely, and we successfully cooked microwave curries, rice and naan! We chatted with a lady staying in a shared room and she was very positive about it.|The location was a little remote from the attractions we wanted to visit. However the public transport was excellent - the bus stop was right outside and the buses were frequent. It was around a 5-10min walk to the train station, with a pretty steep climb up to the platform. But we passed a Lawson which was convenient!|I'd recommend for couples/friends and solo travellers, and would...
