I was cautious from the other reviews, but was pleasantly surprised by my experience, I thought I should give it some balance. The location is a bit hidden, but the food was great and the staff/owner were friendly. I don't know much Japanese, but they welcomed me and even saw me off the front door after I finished. The place is a simple, quaint diner that fits three tables of four people - that's it. They seated me on one of the tables even though I was dining alone. Hakone diners are usually closed by 4pm. This is one of the few gems that remain open until 10.30pm. I'm glad I made the trip instead of just onigiri in the hotel room. ごちそうさまでした!

Everyone was super nice and the food was delicious. Would definitely recommend the grilled eggplant, steak bowl, and chicken karrage in addition to the sashimi included with the service. The server and chef were very kind and appreciated our effort to speak broken japanese. Previous commentors who thought the women were rude probably put zero effort into their communication and possess no understanding or patience.

The abalone rice bowl was awesome. Steak bowl was average, not because it wasn’t good, just because there are so much good ones in Japan. The service was very average, don’t appear to welcome tourists. Surprised they have an English menu. The roads leading to this place is very narrow, so drive a smaller car.

宿から徒歩圏内で行ける飲食店の口コミをチェックしたところ、 「いろり家」の口コミは殆どが「孤独のグルメを観て行った」とあったので、その回を観てみました。 もうこれを観たら、「いろり家」に行きたくなっちゃいますよね。 お昼は11：30、夜は18：00と、最初の時間だけ予約可能だったので、まだ空いていた夜を予約。 五郎さんが食べていたステーキ丼も、一緒に紹介されていた鮑丼も夜のメニューにあるので無問題。 夜だと暗くて少し怖い山の中の細い道。本当にこっちで合ってる？というような廃墟の前を通り過ぎます。 角を曲がると、暗闇に一か所だけ明かりがついている場所があり、そこが「いろり家」でした。 開店時間に合わせて数組の人たちが次々に集まってきましたが、予約なしの人は次々と断られて帰っていきました。 夜は居酒屋メニューが豊富です。 とりあえず瓶ビールを注文。 お通しの鯵のたたきが美味しくて、一品得したような気になりました。 ステーキ丼と悩んだ末、私が選んだのは鮑丼（￥2200） バターと肝のソースが最高にいい香りです！ ソースとご飯をよく混ぜていただきま～す♪ ぷりっぷりの鮑に濃厚なソースが絡んだご飯。 これはたまりません！ （脳内で五郎さんのように独り言をつぶやきながら食べました） ご飯を食べてしまったので、あとのおつまみはなるべくお腹にたまらないものを選びました。 口コミで絶賛されていた馬刺し（￥1200） ハーフサイズでも十分な量。 噂通りとろけるような美味しさでした。 3組しか入れないのに一人客で申し訳なかったので、せめて客単価を上げようとお酒を追加。 馬刺しに合わせて、珍しく日本酒にしてみました。 最後に大好物の揚げ出し茄子を食べて〆。 特に時間制限はないと言われたけれど、全部食べ終わったらちょうど1時間だったので、お会計をしてもらいました。 ￥6430とまぁまぁなお値段。 でも旅割クーポンが使えたので、貯まっていた分を全額使って￥2559になりました。（残りはPayPay払い） 待ち時間なしで人気店で美味しいお料理を堪能できて、大満足でしたー♪

Lovely place place with dilecious food. The location is kind of diffduclt to find but if you get lost you can always call their phone number. Stuff will be more than happy to guide us. Reservation is avilible for this restaunt too.
