穴子天丼・天丼 天ぷら みしなや — Restaurant in Hatsukaichi

This is an amazing find in a quieter location along the Miyajima coast. It is a small run family restaurant with 6 tables on tatami and 6 stools at a bar. The restaurant overlooks the water and the Tori gates.

The owner was kind enough to serve us after they just closed for their lunch service (11-4 pm ). I think the last order is 2:30 or 3 pm . We arrived just after 3 pm. I asked kindly to serve us last because we had just walked the Daishoin trail up Mountain Misen. A tough climb but the view was worth it and a nice meal to end the experience was welcomed.

We enjoyed the main tempura set for 2000 yen which comes with so much tempura (10 pieces ; 7 veggies and 3 shrimp), along with rice , pickled vegetables and miso. The food wait is very long , and they clearly say this in the menu. At the end of the meal they serve you an ice cream /frozen dessert .

The family dog is Lucky- super cute.

Beautifully located right near the Tori Gate Shrine with traditional tatami mats that made for a wonderful experience. The service was fantastic and the food was incredible! The tempura was light and delicious, the set included two different dipping sauces (salty and sweet), pickled vegetables, rice and miso soup (which is probably one of the best I’ve had). To finish, they gave us some momiji manju and an ice cream for dessert. I also requested some hot tea, which was not on the menu, and they provided this complementary. For entree, we also got some fries and edamame. This came to ¥2200 each, which we thought was very reasonable.

The restaurant is quite small with 6 tables and it seems typical that the wait for food is ~50mins (however it was worth it!).

Deeeelicious! Had a great lunch after visiting the aquarium and was looking for a restaurant that wasn’t super crowded. This resto is adjacent to a small pond that runs in between the main street and the beachside, making it a great spot to view the tori gate.

The boss was so kind and directed me to sit next to the window so that I can have a better view of the tori gate.

Ordered the tempura set and it came out perfectly as the batter was light and everything was freshly fried. They even provided dessert in the form of a fried momiji manju, hot green tea and an ice lolly for the super hot day.

The dog Lucky-chan was really cute too! Will return should I ever visit Miyajima...
