Whenever I travel to Hiroshima, I always try to stop by and eat at my favorite sushi place - Sushi-ken. First and most importantly, I'd highly recommend a reservation for dinner, as this is not a very large place - and also super popular with the locals. However, they have allowed me in without a reservation if I wish to sit (alone) on one of the sushi bar stools.
Service is impeccable, and the staff is EXTREMELY talented and knowledgeable on the "art" of sushi. They work efficiently and quietly. The sakana here has always been incredibly fresh and firm. In fact, on my most recent visit, one of the sushi chefs literally reached into the aquarium behind the prep area and grabbed out a large fish and proceeded to filet it up (the process took vastly longer than I thought!). Read more2 weeks in Japan, and the diner we had at this restaurant is at the top of our list of all the meals we had during our trip! It was so fresh and delicious, we couldn’t believe it! There was a language barrier, as only one person was speaking a little English, but we had a great time! They were all very nice to us. Still dreaming about...
