We've actually done this experience twice (once in 2023 and now in 2025) and it was so great both times! The owner is a lovely guy and everything a great instructor is: He prioritised safety and made sure we were all comfortable with the steps before we picked up a bow or an arrow. He provides instruction on how to 'zero' your shots and gain better consistency to land your shots. He has a great sense of humour (all the guys in our session were poor shots and he told us to do better 😂). There are now also some assistant archers there to help out, when we were there it was almost 1 teacher per student (i.e. 3 assistant archers for 4 students). They were also an absolute joy and super skilled with the bow. What to expect: Instruction on handling of the bow and arrow. Practice rounds. Competitions between the students. If you're looking for a fun activity and a bit of learning with some great people, then this I highly recommend this, my only regret is that I don't get to do it more often and...
Read moreMy wife and I booked the Kyūdō experience on a whim and we were very glad we did! It was an excellent experience, a highlight of our trip and one we tell everyone about when given the chance. :-) Instruction was given partially in English and partially using voice translation software, which did not prove to be a barrier. I do not want to take away from the experience by explaining the details, but as a tip: the ritual of readying the bow and arrow to take a shot is more important than hitting the target. Paying close attention to the instructions and taking each step slowly will help to get the most out of the experience. Hopefully that will help you to have as much fun as we did. If we stayed a further day in Hiroshima and there was a reservation free, then I am sure we would have done it again, that's how much we enjoyed it. Thank you very much to the staff for their guidance, knowledge and the wonderful time!
P.S. the uniforms were gorgeous and it was a shame to have to remove them at the end of...
Read moreHello,
I Read most experiences were good, except for one lady who kind of had the same feelings towards the lessenaar I had, so I read. my girlfriend and I had a lesser experience. We even left early because the male instructor was very agressive in his ccommunication because I did not pick up on the techniques fast enough to his paste after 5 min of technical explanation.
I thought it was my opinion only but my girlfriend noticed it as well. She on the otherhand had a real calm and friendly female instructor. I had a discussion with the man saying I came in honour and respect of the tradition but I could not continue if he was going to shout on me like that. So we tried to talk it out nicely him and me, but we didn't get nowhere with our talks. In the end he was going to refund our money.
This to be said. This was my only negative experience in Japan. I've been here for three weeks.
Hope you...
