Sapana — Restaurant in Hiroshima

So, I went here in September of 2024. I was staying at a nearby hostel and went here for dinner. I walked in and asked for a table for 1, only me. I was polite and smiling but I terrified the entire staff by simply walking into the premises. Their attitude towards me was totally bizarre, totally baffling! I actually asked them if they were scared and they said yes. Now the thing is, it was a hot day and I have a bald head and frankly I feel they judged me based on the stereotype of a bad guy from a movie or something. It was as though they expected me to rob the place or start attacking them. It was one of the strangest experiences I've ever had in Japan but that's the thing, they're not Japanese so I really don't know what their problem was. HOWEVER, the food was absolutely delicious, but due to the weird way I was treated, it ruined the meal. My advice to management, stop being so weird and judgemental with foreigners you don't often get in...

Very cheap lunch deals from 790 yen including take-out for a curry (no substitutions choose from only the choices of chicken or masala egg, vegetable or shrimp for lunch sets) & nan (add 100-200 yen extra for flavored nan) & drink (add 100 yen for free-refills). Kids lunch set especially good deal at 550 yen.

7 tables seating. Seems like non-smoking but unclear if someone asked for ashtray. No parking.

Convenient location near streetcar & only 10 minutes walk from A-bomb dome.

Quite large dinner menu that can also be ordered from at lunchtime including a good selection of vegetarian and other Asian (non-curry) options. No vegan options.

Staff welcoming, friendly & multilingual. Japanese News programs on tv, would prefer Bollywood for a bit...

We ordered butter chicken masala and regular chicken masala. They were good portions, and very delicious! Maybe a bit of sweetness influenced by japanese curry, but authentic flavor nonetheless. The naan is so good, and the plain naan is huge— great value. The momo (dumpling) is yummy too. Like a chinese dumpling with indian influence. Also, the service was exceptional. They gave us a water pitcher at the table but refilled our glasses anyway....
