During our visit to Ise, we found Maruten Naigumae Store in Okage Yokocho and it quickly became one of our favorite food stops. We tried their seafood skewers and were really surprised by how tasty they were. The texture reminded me of fish cake but felt firmer and more elastic than any I’ve had before. The flavor was different too — with a nice subtle zing from red ginger mixed in that made it stand out.
The seafood tasted fresh, and the outside was lightly crispy, making each bite satisfying. The shop itself fits perfectly into the traditional vibe of Okage Yokocho, with its old-style architecture and friendly staff adding to the experience.
