The only thing that was okay was the pizza itself, but other than that I can't say anything good about this restaurant. Unfortunately there was no place for us, because everything was already reserved. Completely okay with that, so I told them that we could eat from a box in front of the door. When I wanted to pay for 2 pizzas the amount was suddenly much higher than what was on the menu and when I asked about it, it turned out that we had to pay a lot for the boxes... How dare you to ask for money while you can't offer your customers a seat?!?! Personally I would feel so sorry for my customers as a restaurant owner if I was fully booked and had to turn people away, and when customers then politely tell you that they would accept take-away, to ask for EXTRA money... When I indicated that I found it really absurd that I had to pay for the boxes myself, there was suddenly a table.., very very strange! BUT… then we all needed to order a drink, what a blackmail…. Another thing, in Japan you get free water in every restaurant, but then we saw that we were skipped and the other tables did get water. Wauw, what a terrible bad and childish service. Oh, and the ladies are also very mean because they laugh with each other behind your back. Don't eat here people, the gastenvrouw really doesn't treat their...
Read moreI was motivated to write a review for this fabulous restaurant. My party of 6 called and were able to get a table within minutes. When we arrived, we were greeted with a warm greeting and a smile, and I spotted the wood-burning pizza oven. We ordered the ragu pasta, the tomato base pasta, the oil base pasta, the margherita pizza and the funghi e panna (ham and mushroom) pizza. I can only speak for the ragu and ham pizza, but the others said that their food was awesome as well. Oh my, how delicious everything was! The pasta was cooked to perfection—it tasted like it was straight from Italy. The pasta was a perfect texture, the sauce was balanced, meaty, and very flavorful. The pizza melted in your mouth. The creamy sauce, mushrooms, and ham along with the crispy crust all came together to create a food experience that we could not stop talking about while we were eating. Every bite was a joy. I found out that the cook hails from Tokyo, where he was trained by a chef who learned in Napoli, Italy. Though it is strange to eat authentic Italian food in a countryside setting like Ishigaki, I recommend everyone to designate one of your meals Italian and eat here. Not...
Read moreThe fresh wood oven pizza was undeniably delicious the dough was perfectly baked, with a great texture and a nice char from the oven. The flavors were well-balanced, and the ingredients seemed fresh. However, the overall experience was underwhelming.
The restaurant lacked passion, and the staff only provided the necessary level of friendliness just enough to do their job, but without any warmth or engagement. It felt like they were more focused on efficiency than on making guests feel welcome.
Another letdown was how stingy they were with the mozzarella. For a place that specializes in pizza, you’d expect them to be more generous with such a key ingredient. On top of that, we felt somewhat "forced" to order additional drinks, which I wouldn’t have minded if the atmosphere had been more inviting.
In the end, the food was solid, but the service and overall experience didn’t match. A little more generosity both in ingredients and hospitality would go a long way in making this place...
