Marugen — Restaurant in Ito

Very tasty - regional dishes from Ito-shi. We went here on a Tuesday night and it was the only busy place on the street, but still made for a relaxed meal. Staff were really nice and also accommodating with our limited Japanese. We had the vortex fish, raw freshly ground fish (tuna by it's colour) mixed with fruity green chili eaten in three stages (sashimi, on rice, on rice with hot dashi to make a tasty soup), as well as local sashimi and aji katsu, a fish from the area, undersalted which showed off its sweet flesh. Food is fine but not mind blowing, one staff was really helpful, there was the other one that was quite rude, could have made it a 2 stars base on the attitude, but let's be nice and keep it at 3 lol

Country side/small town dining is never easy, in this cas i guess the rudeness came from the frastration of tough communication w English and Google translate doesn't make lif easier, a little bit patient on English speaking tourist would...

This lovely restaurant has in our opinion a much lower score than what it deserves. The interior was cozy and traditional, the staff lovely and service oriented, and the menu super fun! We got to try to specialities from Ito (Mizore don and Uzywa chazuke) that shall be eaten in a very special way, nicely illustrated by some cute infograpgics on the menu.
