Hotel Yoshino displayed a newly renovated exterior and lobby that was very impressive and welcoming. However, like much of Japan...the new meets the old. Greeted by the Japanese equivalent of a concierge.....our host displayed the familiar extremely-friendly bowing and gracious manner seen in Japanese tourism - he made sure we were taken care of and our 2 rooms were satisfactory. Despite the renovations, there were many times, I felt like I was in a much older hotel revealed by the low door heights...well-worn tatami mats and food odours present on each floor. The onsen was very shiny, renovated and surprisingly large. The men enjoyed a much larger onsen that the women's as my wife and I compared notes on what they offered...no surprise there. |Our family ordered an evening meal into our room where we enjoyed old world opulence with our personal maid, server and attendant looking after every detail as only the Japanese can by pouring sake, beer and endless cups of tea while we dined on our 9 course meal. |This modern looking hotel retains its old world character and makes for a wonderful stay. You must have the meal in your room to truly appreciate the mix of modern and new that makes Japan a cultural gem...

Read moreSpent two nights here. A nice little relaxing get away in a cute town. Dinner and breakfast have to be the most spectacular part of the stay. Both meals were delicious and aesthetically pleasing. If you’re not a big fish person tho I don’t recommend you book for meals as it’s obviously a staple due to their location. But if you are it’s amazing and well worth above what you paid. The onsen is lovely, especially the open air bath. Rooms are very cute traditional tatami and futons which even for a westerner were very comfy. The bathroom is a little dated but that would be the only issue. However, you only use it for your business and wash in the onsen so not a big deal. Staff are all very friendly and did their best to explain everything with the language barrier....
