After a long day at Kamakura that ended at Daibutsu like most visitors, my family and I were heading towards the station to return to Tokyo when on the side of the rode I saw an Argentinian restaurant!! I'm Spanish and knew empanadas are also part of Argentina's culinary culture so I got exited to think they might offer them... and they did!! But because it was already 6pm, the kitchen was closed. The girl taking the orders told us to wait a moment and went to the back. The chef came and agreed to make some empanadas for us!! It turns out, they were couple and the rest of the people inside were also part of the family, grandparents and kid included! Such a lovely and warm place :D I felt sorry for making the chef work a little extra as the order was quite large.
While we waited, the girl brought us some delicious water with lemon and dulce de leche with some crunchy food (fried pasta?) at no extra charge. WOW! What a wonderful service!! My kids ate the dulce de leche in an instant and loved it! But the main course was empanadas, and let me tell you, they were absolutely delicious! We ordered them to go as we didn't want to bother the owners any longer. We got several beef, chicken and sea food empanadas and only half made it home. We couldn't stop eating them while on our way to Tokyo. Crunchy outside and juicy and full of flavor on the inside.
Thank you so much for such a great food and for being such nice and welcoming couple. Next time we go to Kamakura, we will stop by your restaurant and try the rest of the menu which I'm sure it's also delicious while reading one of your Mafalda comic....
Read moreAfter three unforgettable weeks traveling through Japan, we unexpectedly stumbled upon a hidden gem in Kamakura—La Nostalgia. This cozy little spot, run by a warm and welcoming couple with Argentinian roots deeply woven into Japanese life, felt like a beautiful collision of two worlds.
From the moment we stepped in, it was like being transported to a Buenos Aires café. The aroma of fresh empanadas, flaky pastries, and rich café con leche filled the air—each bite and sip bursting with authentic Argentinian flavor and love. The space, though small, is brimming with charm, adorned with tango-inspired décor, photos of El Obelisco, and jerseys of Messi and Maradona—a perfect homage to their heritage.
If you're ever in Kamakura and craving something heartfelt, flavorful, and completely unexpected, La Nostalgia is an absolute must. A true slice of Argentina in the...
