The definition of homely, and an amazing place to unwind in. The highlight of my trip to Japan in terms of restaurants, perhaps because it didn't feel like a restaurant. It felt like I was at a tucked away family beach house, enjoying the day.
A lot of restaurants try to capture the essence of nostalgia and the idea of relaxing at home, but WanderKitchen captures it so lovingly. The staff are incredibly friendly, the spaces are quiet and bursting with warmth, local art, and ramshackle furniture. The menu is only in Japanese, but the chef speaks English and can help you. There are many options! I got the Chili and it was incredible, as was the Carrot Cake. Read moreWe are a vegan family of four, we visited the Kamakura temple and it was rainy and freezing. We walked to WanderKitchen and it was closed - the children were super hungry and it was about 3 PM - close to when most places close between lunch and dinner and we were running out of options , shivering in the cold. Someone ran up to us - she kindly offered to open Wanderkitchen and give us food. Ain was so kind to us and let us dry and get warm. We were up against another surprise, turns out they dont have anything vegan in the menu but she very kindly gave us a warm beautiful fresh vegan meal and hot tea. Ayn means love, she said. Overall I totally recommend this place and God bless you Ayn for being very kind to us today. Unforgettable Japanese hospitality and one of the highlights...
Read moreCame here, with big expectations, for a vegan dessert in a Saturday afternoon but unfortunately they didn't have any dessert available, They told me they stopped selling desserts for good (?). Then asked for a soy cappuccino or soy latte and they said the soy cappuccino can only be served iced, that made me puzzled but even so I was about to order when the young staff checked at kitchen and finally told me they didn't have soy available at all. Opted for a juice. I later discovered this is not a vegan restaurant at all, it is just the owner who is so kind to arrange food for vegans. Hope to try it someday in the future. Please be careful don't be fooled by google reviiews, check well before...
