It’s a local izakaya with really good atmosphere. The sushi counter is serve by the master and he is very attentive to all client who sits at counter. There were many comment and post in google map says that GoRoHachi don’t serves foreigners. Well I guess it’s true. Because of the popularity of this izakaya and it’s business is usually full, the staff do not have much time to help explaining its menu to non Japanese speaking tourist. My first time there was met with the floor manage who ask me to wait for 20min as they prepare the counter seat for me. There were a couple frm France right after me, they don’t speak Japanese..hence, the floor manager was reluctant to serve them. It was a language barrier for the floor manager as he was trying to explain to the 2 foreigner that they need 20min to prep the seat..but both foreigners insisting if they can go in now... tough situation. I lend a helping hand to the floor manager and explain to the foreigners that “they are preparing the seat so please wait” then again, after we all got our seat, the French couple had hard time ordering. That is the situation for foreigners in Japan. If you want to visit a country that don’t speak English, please at least prepare yourself to speak a little local language or do research and only go to places that has English menu. Otherwise, don’t be a cry baby here.
As for food, overall we loved it! The 塩のど黒is a must。最高です!amazingly delicious! Sashimi is good as well. Note that every restaurant that serves sashimi depends very much on its supplier and the way they kept the fresh produce. Hence, GoRoHachi sashimi master really take care of its products and select only the best. Sake selection is also good. No complain. As for service, it’s usual Japanese “omotenashi” even though they are extremely busy, I am quite satisfied with...

In fact my wife and I didn't even get a chance to try this place, we were simply rejected of entry straight at the entrance simply because, as tourists, we couldn't speak Japanese.
We tried this place on our first night at Kanazawa and a young lady who could speak English told us politely that the place was full and we would have to wait for at least 2 hours.
We went again the next night and there was a man by the entrance, simply said "Japanese speaking only" and showed us the door.
We have been to various places in Japan and even with Japanese menu only we were always welcomed and staffs were always trying to help, very politely. This place is a...
