What a fantastic confectionary! If you are fortunate enough to eat in, you get to enjoy wonderful Japanese desserts and confections while admiring a traditional Japanese garden. Originally, we went there to buy their trademark confection known as “Hanako and Tarou” which is essentially a matcha cake (castella) and chocolate yōkan stuck together. But the weather had other plans for us as it started to hail (yes, as in little ice pellets) as we got there. It turned out to be a blessing. We were the only people there, so we decided to eat in, and we were so incredibly happy that we did. We had the warm desserts (Shiratama Kinako Kuromitsuzuke and Matcha Zenzai) which really hit the spot on a cold winter day along with the Matcha with a Superior Wagashi…which translates as green tea with a fancy schmancy confection. Everything was delicious and the view and ambiance were so nice that for once in my life, I was grateful for hail.
