Stepped in here after looking for a place to get coffee before looking at the Samurai museum nearby. After a week travelling Tokyo and Shibu Onsen this place felt like a warp back to Australia! The menu has open sandwiches and a variety of coffee orders, we opted for a long black (americano) and a latte. They had a decadent selection of sweets and baked goods, (the cheesecake on the other table looked delicious!) but we got the chicken curry and the avocado open sandwich.
The food was lovely, a nice change to the cafes and food spots we have stepped into over the last week. The highlight - bread! Japanese bread so far has been so sweet with the crusts taken off. Moron Cafe served up crusty sourdough that tasted like back home. Even my partners chicken curry tasted more like the Australian-take on Japanese curry than the curries we have had so far.
As for the scenery, perhaps this was the most Australian of all! Just like a cafe in Sydney’s inner west or in Melbourne’s suburbs the cafe had a whopping coffee machine proudly displayed on the countertop. Cutlery was a spoon and fork. And there was a boutique youth fashion shop upstairs. The walls and floors were concrete, and the soundtrack was phoebe bridges and other western Indie artists. They sold succulents from a quaint shelf in the back.
Not an ‘Australian’ cafe by its own intention but worth looking at if your curious to get a taste of the famous Australian cafe scene - or like us - if you’re an Aussie missing home!
Thanks...
Read moreTypical hipster cafe with a laid back vibe. We came here on a weekday morning, so the place wasn't full. Just a few tables were occupied by female Japanese locals. Looked like I and my wife were the only tourists.
We only came to this cafe because my wife was feeling cold due to the snowy weather, so she just went to the cafe while I went around the Samurai district. I followed my wife to the cafe afterwards.
There is a one drink and one food item minimum order per customer in this cafe. I got a cappuccino and a muffin. They were OK but nothing to write home...
Read moreAfter an early morning of exploring Kanazawa while it was still empty, I decided to grab a well deserved coffee and breakfast here.
There's plenty of options, and I went for the caramel latte as well as the avocado toast. You can grab water yourself at the counter. Prices were fair and the quality of everything was excellent. The staff was also very friendly.
They have enough seating inside as well as outside. They also sell some merch. I'd...
