My friend and I visited Cafe Elster back in late Sept last year along our way to Karatsu Castle. The cafe is so cute in a European fairy tale cottage style with a beautiful garden outside. Inside it feels like you're visiting a friend's home with antiques and collectibles. The atmosphere is very cozy and peaceful. All the cakes are made in house and the ice tea was so refreshing on a hot day. The owner was literally the kindest person we met on our trip. He chatted with us about where we're from and what we were doing and helped bring out his two cats which we were eager to see! His kindest knew no bounds as he even gifted us both with a small ceramic cup with a rabbit on it! We seriously couldn't believe how wonderful this whole visit was! I have saved this cafe for future visits and also recommend to anyone who planed to...

Quaint little cafe with the best iced coffee I’ve had in Japan.

As someone who’s had a cup of iced coffee every day of his life for the past decade, this one felt special. I ordered 3 cups for myself in 15 minutes. The third order, just to observe him to see if there was witchcraft involved in his coffee-making.

Lo and behold, there’s nothing. Nothing but sheer mastery over good old pour-over techniques and practices. Watching him make each cup of iced coffee with such dedication and effort, it’s no wonder the flavor comes through so well.

The gentleman’s humble tools and skills, extracted much of the beans flavor, with a delicate hint of acidity. Something a 2,000 dollar machine with 9 bars of pressure may still struggle...
