Stopped by the café next to the hotel for a quick afternoon tea. Since it was raining, the outdoor seating was closed. We ordered monaka with strawberry, red beans, and cheesecake. The dessert itself was just okay—nothing special.

What really soured the experience was the service. I asked a staff member (a woman working the counter) for a monaka with both strawberry and cheesecake in the same piece. Despite clearly repeating my order three times in Japanese, she somehow interpreted it as two separate monaka—one with strawberry, one with cheesecake. It was baffling how such a simple request led to so...

(As of December 12, 2024 Payment is accepted by cash or AMEX credit card only.)

I visited this store in May 2023 on my way back from visiting Kurama Temple and Kifune Shrine. A friendly young female staff member guided me to my room, and I ordered a monaka (traditional Japanese wafer cake). It was delicious. The monaka was filled with sake lees, which initially made me wonder if it might have a strong flavor, but that wasn't the case; it perfectly matched the bean paste and strawberries. The green maple leaves in the photo are real. It was soothing. Also, I was having trouble finding clean restrooms around Kifune Shrine, so I used this store's restroom, which was a very clean, Western-style one, which was a great help. Payment is accepted by cash or AMEX credit card only. Honestly, I wish they would accept VISA and...

You pay 500yen just to sit on the river bed. The Matcha was the worst Matcha I had in Japan and the sweet treat was also the worst I had in Japan. The wait wasn't too long, I think we waited for like 5 min. You pay for your food and will be given a seat number. You don't have a choice where you would like to sit. You take your own tray down to the river bed. I really don't think...
