Kairikiya has become one of our absolute favorite ramen stores in the Kansai area, joining Bishiya, Ippudo and Ichiran.
This is the main store of the Kairikiya ramen chain (there is at least one other store in the center area of Kyoto). They serve, among others, an oily black soy-sauce based ramen and a wonderfully rich Tonkotsu (pork bone broth) ramen.
I am particularly partial to their Miso Ramen. The soup is simply amazing - it has a subtle rich flavor that just melts in the mouth, with just the right amount of salt. The chashu slices are very mild and greatly complement the soup.
If you are hungry to the point of starvation, try the yakimeshi teishoku - their yakimeshi/chahan is very delicious as well. A bowl of ramen and a plate of yakimeshi can easily feed two people, and the staff will give you extra plates and bowls for sharing if you ask (no extra charges!).
The crowd is mixed at all hours - lots of families, workers, businessmen, students. Staff is very friendly.
