The Burger Company — Restaurant in Kyoto

Although the food was good, we were awfully treated by a staff. We were a group of 4 but 2 arrived early to get a table; tables were full so we had to wait. When a 4-people table became available, a staff came to ask how long our other 2 friends would take to arrive and that the 4 of us needed to be there to be let in, and after confirming, we told them 2 minutes. She went inside, talked to the cook/manager, and came back asking if we could let the next group of 3 to go in first since all of us were not there. We called our friends again, but then the chef/manager came out and said "our rule is to let in only complete groups, so I'm going to let the next group first" and immediately started talking to the next group, without asking anything or waiting for our reaction. Our friends arrived 1 minute later, and we were made to wait for the next table to open. That rule aside (other restaurants in Japan also have it), it was the way in which he addressed us that was very disrespectful, especially because in Japanese language clients are talked to in a respectful manner, and his way of speaking implied something like "I will do so and don't care what you think." One of the best burgers in Kyoto in the middle of a quiet neighborhood - authentic gastropub burgers, in American sizes and perfectly made double-fried fries. The toppings are fresh and high quality. And they have a surprisingly selection of beer, wine, and whiskey. Service is fast and friendly. What a great find.
