Ramen with a side dish of hot tongue. After 40 years of travel experience in Japan I can honestly say that I had only experienced rude behavior on one previous occasion. But the proprietor of this dingy 2 table ramen shop went way beyond that. I haven't any idea why but instead of just taking our order he proceeded to launch into a diatribe, using a cheap mobile device translator that was difficult to understand, against me and my dining companion that went on for 10 minutes. Something about how I should learn about Japanese culture etc. etc. Apparently in 40 years of travel there I never learned anything even though I have deep respect for the culture and consider myself exceedingly polite and deferential towards Japanese people. He calmed down long enough to serve 2 mediocre bowls but just couldn't help himself and got in a few more parting shots on our way out. Read moreI don’t recommend this restaurant as tourist. The owner of this restaurant looked very uncomfortable with using translator when I entered the restaurant. Of course I knew that speaking Japanese to order the food is much better and it’s kind of respect their culture and I tried to spoke a little bit of Japanese. Nevertheless, his attitude and the tone of voice felt like rude as a tourist… I was disappointed the mood and felt like I wouldn’t like to visit here again even though it was the last day of traveling and once again, I don’t recommend here. Edit: I have visited after 7 years and visit to the master of ramen again. The service is now even better as we could talk a little bit thanks to the same translation device they use in Dogo onsen. I am extremely grateful for this place and will visit every time I'm in Matsuyama as in 7 years I have not found a better ramen in whole Europe than this one! Wholeheartedly...
