Date of enjoyment: 14/04/25 Came here just before noon on a Monday and it got packed really quickly, there were heaps of filling choices, from sweets to something a bit more filling like tuna mayo. And the combinations you can do is endless, essentially this is a bun bar for an affordable price where you choose your fillings inside a soft white bread. There’s the popular red bean paste with butter, matcha and red beans and fruity jam flavours but the local seems to go after the more savoury options. The size of the bread is roughly like the Vietnamese Banh mi and nothing is over 400 yen per item and most of them are roughly about 100 yen range. It’s super tasty and affordable which makes it popular, they have 3 other stores but this one is the OG. Fukuda Pan is somewhat of an institution amongst...

Fukuda pan is known for their plain fluffy bread and abundant fillings. The shop is always super busy but worth going to for a huge variety of flavors.

For example: katsu sandwiches, anko & butter (most traditional), fruit jams, and creamy fillings.

You can buy more regular flavors such as jam & butter or milk cream at grocery stores. Come to the actual store for flavors like:

-keema curry (curry and potato salad)

There is a reason this is considered Morioka's soul food. You can choose your choice of one or two spreads on baked-fresh-that-day bread. The most popular is "an butter", sweet red bean paste with butter, but my favorite is the green tea and red bean combination "matcha an". There are also savory selections available. If you cannot eat lard (from cow), avoid any of the selections that use butter.

It can get extremely crowded here, especially around lunch time so be prepared to wait in line a little. I also recommend coming on foot if possible because the small parking lot fills up...

Autumn flavors include chestnut, zunda (edamame), kabocha, and more. Will definitely come again.

I had the day's recommendation of sweet potato and custard. It was very good, reminded me of kaya toast in Singapore. The koppepan was soft, yet substantial, and the fillings were generous, but perfectly portioned for the size of the bread. It's a very satisfying eat for 188 yen. I regret having breakfast at my hotel, because I wanted to try more sandwiches here. I came in on a rainy weekday morning, at 9AM. Shortly after I arrived, people started streaming in. So I recommend coming in early, so you can calmly browse the massive menu and decide what to buy.
