GUENPIN ZENKOUJIGUCHI — Restaurant in Nagano

We stumbled upon this place while looking for dinner one night and if you are heading there try to make reservations, they had us wait aside while they checked for availability, it took a while. Lucky for us we were able to enjoy their 6 course fugu set. It was 5000 yen ~ SGD$50. We opted for the top up of 300 yen to tiger fugu but mayhap due to the language barrier, they did not include that in our course. There were English menus so that made things a lot easier.

The waiter that served us told us there is the same chain restaurant back in Singapore at Tanjong Pagar so that was really cute. Wir wollten unbedingt mal diesen Kugelfisch probieren, daher sind wir hier her gekommen.

Zuerst immer die obligatorische Frage ob man reserviert hat: nein haben wir nicht ab in den Wartebereich: es bleibt spannend. Ok wir bekommen einen Tisch! Wir entscheiden uns 1x für das Aal-Menü (auch eine Spezialität) mit Fugu-Sashimi, Fugu-Haut gekocht, Fugu frittiert und Aal-Leber-Miso-Suppe. Dazu noch Fugu zum selber grillen in 3 Varianten. Zum trinken Fugu-Kollagen-Mango-Schorle und den Sake mit brennender Fugu-Flosse. Eins muss man ihnen lassen: es wird alles vom Fisch verwertet!

Fugu schmeckt leider total fad… schade. Dafür war der Aal wirklich sehr gut glasiert.

Das Personal versteht leider kein Englisch und auch Handdeutungen oder die Frage nach der Toilette oder noch einem Bier stellt sich als schwierig heraus.

Positiv war, dass wir, obwohl wir nur ein Menü bestellt haben, 2 Soßen und 2x Pickels bekommen haben. Negativ: das sie die Kugel Eis zur Nachspeise...
