大衆ビストロ BALLOWS — Restaurant in Naha

I was refused service. It was less than half full when I came in and sat down, but the manager(?) came right away and told me to leave saying that they were “full” because of “reservations”. This seemed strange because all the single seats were set up to welcome customers with menus etc. like normal.

Then I happened to walk by again just over an hour later and there were even less customers than before. I came in again but the staff seemed to notice me, talk to each other (like, hey that guy came back) then refused to even look at me or come to the front where I stood and waited. After a few minutes I left.

He lied because he didn’t want a foreigner in his restaurant it seems (I’m guessing because he thinks foreigners spread Corona, rather than just pure hate). Even though I spoke Japanese, it didn’t matter. This experience really ruined my night.

To be clear, I did not complain (or have the chance to) or raise my voice etc. if anything I expressed slight bewilderment with body language when I was asked to leave, but that’s it. Everyone else there was at different stages of their meal and all in different sized groups. I was alone and just wanted something to eat and maybe have a drink. Would not have stayed more...

This restaurant is the best choice when you can't find late night snacks on Kokusai-dori in Okinawa! They have dice beef, fried potatoes, pizza! Also, the bread before the meal is...

食事はとても美味しく値段も良心的ですが、スタッフの態度が残念でした。

まず一つ目、 入店し時間が経っても初めのお通しが来ない。ドリンクしかこない。私たちよりかなり後に来た他のお客様のところにはすでに来ており、こちらの不快な反応を見て、焦ったようにお通しを出してきました。忙しいのはわかりますが、やはり順番を飛ばされるのは不快でした。

二つ目、 3品の料理を頼み出来上がりを待っていたのですが、時間が経っても来なかったので、スタッフに注文されているか確認しました。「ただいま調理中」と言われたため引き続き待っていましたが、3品のうち1品しか来ない。結構時間が経ったため、再度出来上がりはまだか確認すると「品切れです」と言われました。なぜ？最初から品切れだったのか？注文ミスで他のお客様の分で品切れになったのか？調理中と言うのは嘘をついていたということなのか？しっかりした謝罪もなく呆れました。

三つ目、 注文の際にメモを取らず暗記していたためちゃんと注文が通っているか心配していると、案の定注文ミス。さらに、その注文を取ったスタッフからの謝罪もなく、もう一度注文しようとすると「時間がかかるのでいつくるかわからない」とのこと。忙しく料理に時間がかかることは分かりますが、メモを取らずに注文ミス、謝罪もなし、急いで提供する気持ちもなし。

料理は美味しい...
