This Mexican joint was peculiar, and not in a good way. I probably parked illegally because I could not find parking near. Once we found a spot that appeared sufficient we journeyed back to enter into one large room spotted with a few empty tables and a bar.
As we walked in, I was greeted by one of three men behind the bar motioning us to come to the bar. Seating was tight for our jolly crew of five men as there were already several people there and it is by no means a large bar. The bar top is crammed with adornments of all natures and not particularly clean in appearance.
The man behind the bar opens up by saying that in order to buy food we must buy drinks, "because this is a bar." I just wanted water, but a $7 chocolate shake (about 1 measuring cup's worth) founds its way into my hands. The menu did not describe at all that this shake was VERY alcoholic. Glad I had another buddy who could drive. I later ordered a $4 glass of pineapple juice, which I made sure was not alcoholic. Unfortunately 90% of the medium-sized glass was filled with a solid chunk of ice. It was as if it was cut to fit the glass. The attached picture is after I drank it and the ice had time to melt.
This place is making bank off of its customers by providing very small portions at a high portion of price, and also forcing customers to pay for more than we really want with the drinks. The food was no different. Zoolander would demand to know if it was a meal for ants, and I am a hungry man who came for a two-hand burrito. Needless to say I did not pay for a second overpriced plate, and left almost as hangry as I came. I would say the food was fine. Certainly nothing to write home about.
I guess we got lucky there was bar seating, because while they had three or four open tables, they kept turning away potential customers from coming in due to the bar already being fully cramped. I would have been quite upset to have made that drive and them wave us away, especially with that many open tables.
In summary, I would not recommend this joint. They are cheap and unreliable in service, and availability. I was not very taken with quality or cleanliness, either. I paid enough to cover the cost of two normal Mexican food meals yet left hangry. It really gets under my skin that they shooed away customers who were probably also willing to pay too much when they had open tables available. Bar or not, having to pay for drinks in order to pay for food is also Bull.
Between turning people away when they have space and the high prices, this place obviously does not really want business to be booming. It may be one of the few Mexican joints in Naha, but it is...
Read moreWent here after a couple of drinks and going to a nightclub. The vibe originally was pretty nice but the food took forever to arrive the service was indeed horrible like many reviews said. The taco was ¥1000 for two tacos and they’re extremely small. I’ve never seen tacos smaller than the ones I got here. The taste was good but the quantity made it not at all worth it. It was even worse when we checked out and found the hidden ¥300 charge per person. I don’t mind paying a seating charge but at least tell us. Also when paying, I wanted to split the bill with my friends so we were individually contributing what we owed at the counter. Then comes in a worker who touched my money and tried to count it out for us. I’ve been living in Japan for 2 years I study in university here so I’m not a stranger to using Japanese coins. They were literally trying to rush us out of the store. He tried grabbing the money directly from my wallet which I find to be extremely rude and just took the money without us having a chance to count it. I’m pretty sure I got ripped off and they took way more change about ¥500 worth than what was needed with their pushy behavior. It was quite unprofessional and if a server ever touches the money from my wallet again, it will NOT end well for them. If you want good Mexican food, this is not worth the money you’ll get scammed out of. I also suspect it was because we were foreigners. Unfortunate that we were met with this inexcusable behavior especially after living here...

Borrachos has a really chill Mexican theme with a drinks bar next to the open kitchen and a few tables. I'd say this place is 50/50 bar restaurant but in the menu I noticed that they ask you to order a drink because they're a bar. Might not be the best place to bring really young kids but if your kids can handle their tacos, they should be fine. 😅
Tacos are pretty authentic Mexican style. They're on the small side which again is authentic but seriously delicious. I tried the beef, shrimp and chicken and they're all fantastic. I also recommend the chili french fries. Mango margarita was great too.
I didn't make a reservation, but it was just me so I got lucky first time at the counter and the 2nd time sharing a table with other people separated by dividers.
When I first went, all the staff were guys and I was well attended to, but the 2nd time there was this very energetic woman serving me. She could speak Japanese and English and was kind enough to ask me how my meal was and offer me more drinks. She also did tequila shots with other customers!
I don't think they have any customer parking, so if you do come here by car, there is plenty of paid parking...
