Highly recommended, must visit if you are staying in Magome for at least!

Best to reserve a table in advance as they are generally fully booked for the dinner. We reserved a table via our stay guest.

We had ordered two Vegan set menu. Well, it turned out to be a fantastic choice! It was unexpectedly tasty as Hoginoga is a family run place, very authentic Japanese. A mother & her two sons run the place, they all cook!

The youngest son notes down orders, attends customers & even explains each & every dish!

The vegan menu started off with an amazing light starter - boiled vegetables dipped in tofu cream, the cream was tasty & yummy!

Then followed a hot soba noodles, well the broth was super fresh, it has a mushroom flavour & spring onion in it. Felt really relaxing after a day long hike.

Dish of second boiled vegetables & beans, the egg plant in sweet sauce is truly mouthwatering! The red bean are great too!

Arrive the main course, vegetables tempura with rice! The sweet potato, broccoli & again the egg plant tempura, along with soy sauce flavoured rice served well! It was just enough portion of the main course.

They also serve hot matcha tea along with main course, I mistakenly ordered hot oolong tea in the beginning. You can avoid ordering hot tea in the beginning, the hot matcha team is flavourful & better!

Lastly, they had an icy Japanese lemon flavoured sweet dish! Just rightly sweet to finish the...

Omggggggg this place is incredible. The whole experience from start to finish was out of this world. Not only is the town of Magome magical as is, this restaurant brings out the unique vibe this place has as a whole. We were greeted and taken to our private room with a view of the beautiful Japanese gardens. Every single dish that was brought to us was immaculate and tasted incredible. The attention to detail was almost surreal, and everything was done and served with utmost respect to the guests, the food and the venue. The sake was from kiso valley, was not cheap but so delicious we got two servings (oops!). I seriously enjoyed this so much- this may have been the best dining experience I’ve ever had in my entire life. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone who wants to feel like royalty whilst eating beautifully prepared traditional Japanese...

One of my favorite meals on our 10 day trip through Japan!

We stayed at the top of the village which I recommend. The walk down the steep hill to dinner was so calming and picturesque in the evening. Very quiet with few people and nice to hear the water trickling down the sides of the street and through the waterwheels.

The atmosphere of the restaurant was beautiful, and the service was great. We opted for 5 courses and sashimi. Everything was really yummy, and my personal favorite was the soba; the broth was so flavorful.

The value was great for the cost, and the experience was awesome. Magome was a bit off the beaten path and I'm unsure how many people I know who would visit, however if anyone was visiting I'd say to dine...
