Before embarking on our long 8km hike along the famous trail, we stopped by this small, cozy café, and it turned out to be the perfect spot to prepare ourselves mentally and physically. The café has a warm, inviting atmosphere that helped us relax before the adventure ahead. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, serving our coffee quickly with a smile.

As for the coffee, it was surprisingly fragrant and rich in flavor, especially considering the reasonable price. It was just what we needed to kickstart our hike. It's only been operating for just under 3 years, but this place is already an institution as far as I'm concerned. Great coffee from the English-speaking owner D., who regularly visits the US/Australia and is connected with other cafes in the Nagoya area. He also has a heart of gold and saved my Magome/Tsumago trip when I had nowhere to stow my baggage - a great guy who absolutely does his country proud.

Edit: Revisited in Nov 2022. The owner's brother was staffing the shop this time. The pourover coffee was still excellent! Apparently a blend, but with pleasant fruit acidity, a rich body, and minimal harsh-bitter notes. They also run a guesthouse now, which another customer...

Perfectly placed coffee shop serving extremely well made granola bowls, croissants and cookies.

Excellent quality coffee, roasted and blended by HillBilly themselves. Small shop though so expect to wait for seats or get take away. We went early morning and managed to sit inside.

Owners are extremely friendly and local, and their English is extremely good. They are very proud of their shop and so should they be, it’s a triumph.
